USC Network Username and Password

In the College of Arts and Sciences, the USC Network username and password control login access to all networked resources; to all laboratory, office, and classroom workstations; to Blackboard; and to the Gamecock email (GEM) system. The USC network username and password DO NOT control login access to GroupWise, Exchange Mail, and other specilized service servers. Users new to the GroupWise email system receive assistance from their local departmental Service Contacts before use.

USC network usernames and passwords for faculty and staff are created and managed by the Network Manager upon requests from local departmental Service Contacts.

USC network usernames and passwords for all students are created and managed by USC University Technology Services according to enrollment status.

Setting/Resetting A USC Network Password

To set/reset a password, faculty should access the Virtual Information Processing system ( VIP) on the Web at https://vip.sc.edu. Students can also set/reset passwords via VIP.

Login to VIP using the information indicated on the opening VIP screen. Once in VIP, click the TECHNOLOGY tab, read through the information, and select the SHOW ME NETWORK USERNAME button. Proceed as instructed.

Setting or resetting the USC network password will change the password on all USC systems that utilizes it. A password should be set to a unique value that only the owner will know and must be 5-14 characters in length, containing any letter, number, or the $ character.

NOTE: Changing the network password will not change the GroupWise or Exchange password. You may synchronize with your Network password by using the change password feature in the respective applications.

Password Expiration

VIP sets the USC network password to expire at the end of 180 days (approximately 6 months). At that time, a new password must be set.

NOTE: Your CAS Server password is not the USC network password. Although you can set it as the same, your CAS password will not be automatically sychonized if you change your USC Network password in VIP. See About CAS Accounts.
